April 2
"Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest." - Psalm 126:5-6 (NLT)
God's ability to restore life is beyond our understanding. Forests burn down and are able to grow back. Broken bones heal. Barren fields spring forth with wildflowers as this new month of transition unfolds. A profound poem about April says:
"Every tear is answered by a blossom,
Every sigh with songs and laughter bent,
April-blooms upon the breezes toss them.
April knows her own and is content."
- Susan Coolidge
Likewise, our scripture today tells us that even grief is not a permanent condition. Our tears can be seeds that will grow into a harvest of joy because God is able to bring good out of tragedy. If you have ever been burdened by sorrow, know that your time of grief and uncertainty will end and that you will again find joy. With patience, and perseverance, you can rest assured your work and faithfulness will be rewarded. The seeds you have planted of kindness, compassion, truth, faithfulness, and hard work will reap a great harvest of joy in God's time! Sorrow and weariness will be followed by the joy of a job well done. Those who have carried a cross shall wear a crown.
Because God is faithful, a time will come when your trials and difficulties will be followed by peace and prosperity. God's promise is true that "Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy." As we understand the future God has for us, we can all experience joy. Don't base your life on circumstances, but on the beautiful promises of a God who loves you totally beyond all human understanding!
Prayer: God of New Life, Thank you for the promise of Joy and my rich abundant harvest that is yet to come. Amen.
