November 18
"Righteousness and justice are the foundations of your throne. Mercy and truth stand in front of you. Blessed are the people who know how to praise you. They walk in the light of your presence, O LORD. They find joy in your name all day long. They are joyful in your righteousness because you are the glory of their strength. By your favor you give us victory." -Ethan the Ezrahite in Psalm 89:14-17 (GW)
The thrones and kingdoms of this world come and go. Politicians, dictators, rulers, and governments rise and fall. Some have succeeded in bringing justice more than others. A few have tried to bring truth and mercy. However, Psalm 89 tells us it is only in God's Kingdom that righteousness, justice, love, and truth can be the unchanging foundation of government. God's throne is the central core of the way God rules. This amazing throne reflects God's character. As his children, we should also be exhibiting the same traits as our Father God as we reach out to others. It is good to take a few minutes on this November day and take inventory to see if our actions are indeed flowing out of righteousness, justice, love, and faithfulness? Unfair, unloving, or dishonest actions can't come from God because they don't reflect his character or heart.
If we seek God's Kingdom first we are promised God's power, joy, and victory in accomplishing his will. Without God's help, we are weak, powerless, and inadequate for even the simplest spiritual tasks. But when filled with God's Spirit, his power will flow through you and then your accomplishments will exceed your expectations. Thank God our Lord is the only true King and not any politician or government official! If we're busy building God's kingdom first before any political kingdom, then all else will be added unto it- including our peace of mind! Worldly rulers, earthly kingdoms, political parties, and presidents all come and go. God stays forever. Or as that old song advises, "Put your hand in the hand of the man from Galilee." If you keep your loyalty, love, and hand safe in Jesus' hand, God's Kingdom will never disappoint or betray you!
Prayer: "Father God, Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven....Deliver us from evil. Amen.
