From the Pastor's Desk: Thanksgiving Message - 1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV

“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

(1 Thessalonians 5:18, NIV)

What are you thankful for this Thanksgiving Day?

For some Thanksgiving and the Holiday Season can be a difficult time. Perhaps there is that empty chair at the table this year. Or, family members cannot attend because they are serving in the military, working as first responders, or in a hospital or eldercare setting. Some may not have the funds to fly home or any way of getting there. Some still remain separated because of COVID. And for many who have limited income and resources, they can’t afford to put much on their tables this year, while all around them the people of this nation are feasting and celebrating Thanksgiving.

Yet we are reminded by Paul to “Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Jesus Christ.”

Even when family members may not be able to gather around the dinner table on this Thanksgiving Day, know that distance nor time can separate the love that we have for one another. Love knows no bounds and never ends, just as the love we have in and through Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. For we are able to love because God first loved us. And let us be grateful for whatever we may share this day. Let us break bread together, remembering the One who gives us hope, who gives us life, and who is always present with us.

The meal we share this day is a gift from God. So let us be thankful on this day, and give thanks to God, whatever our circumstances may be.

May God’s peace and grace be with you on this Thanksgiving Day.

Pastor Sharon
