"And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?" Then I said, 'Here am I! Send me'." - Isaiah 6:8 (RSV)
When Isaiah heard God's voice calling him in the Temple, he courageously responded, "Send Me!" Are we willing to do the same? We may respond, "Well, Isaiah was a prophet and important and needed. I'm just a common person." However, Isaiah didn't set out to be a prophet. When King Uzziah died in 740 BC and he was called to serve God, he was probably a common scribe in the palace in Jerusalem. It was a respectable job, but God had other plans for him. His encounter with God permanently affected Isaiah's life and future. Because of his obedience, Isaiah changed history, brought comfort and hope to multitudes, and left us some of the most beautiful and powerful writings in the Bible plus hundreds of prophecies God is still fulfilling. Isaiah reflected the amazing light of the God he represented. He eventually sacrificed his life in God's service and was martyred for his courageous witness.
God took the common and molded it into the uncommon just as he can with our lives when we say "yes" to God. When God calls, will you also say, "Send me"? Send me to the hungry, the brokenhearted, the helpless, the afflicted and lonely. Send me to those drowning in moral confusion. Send me Lord to hold that wavering hand that reaches out for hope in this hopeless world!" For the truth is God is still calling today for men and women who love righteousness more than popularity. God is seeking all who love justice more than the ease of acceptance! God is crying out for servants who will be risk takers for truth. God is seeking women and men who are willing to say “Yes” to God and "No” to the evils of our time. God is searching today for people willing to say: “Here am I. Send me!” God is searching urgently for those who believe God’s word will prosper in the task it was sent to accomplish. What will your response be? The future depends on it.
Prayer: God Almighty, Help me say "yes" to your call. Amen.
Meditation For The Day: God's call triumphs over all.
