"Brief Devotions For Busy Lives" by Rev. Dr. Mary Johnson: Luke 10:1-9

 May 25

"After this the Lord appointed seventy others, and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to come. And he said to them, "The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest. Go your way; behold, I send you out as lambs in the midst of wolves. Carry no purse, no bag, no sandals; and salute no one on the road. Whatever house you enter, first say, `Peace be to this house!' And if a son of peace is there, your peace shall rest upon him; but if not, it shall return to you. And remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house. Whenever you enter a town and they receive you, eat what is set before you; heal the sick in it and say to them, `The kingdom of God has come near to you." - Luke 10:1-9 (RSV)

Far more than twelve apostles had been following Jesus. Luke the physician says sent a group of seventy-two disciples into many towns. These disciples were not unique in their qualifications. They were not better educated, more capable, or of higher status than Jesus' other followers. What prepared them for this vital mission was that they had been equipped with Jesus' power and a vision to reach and heal all the people. While it is important to dedicate our talents to God's Kingdom, we must also be equipped with his power and have a clear vision of what Christ wants us to do. Jesus gave two commands for his disciples to follow. They were to eat what was available and accept hospitality without being picky. The other command is they were to heal the sick. These commands still apply to Jesus' disciples today. Because of healings, people are willing to listen to hear the Good News of Jesus. What can you do to heal others today? Your efforts are needed as never before. God has work enough for all.

Prayer: Lord, Please show me how to heal others. Amen.

Meditation For The Day: Jesus still heals. We are the vessel he uses today to touch others with his healing power.
