March 5
Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." - Isaiah 40:30-31 (RSV)
The early days of March can bring feelings of weariness as we wait for spring yet are still trapped in the woes of winter in many ways. The weariness that often ensues involves much more than a bad attitude but is a common reaction to being trapped too long indoors with little sunshine surrounded by worries about those we love and dealing with health challenges winter usually brings. Bare tree branches and muddy streets are realities surrounding us so it's no surprise spring sometimes seems a distant possibility too far away to give us much energy to relieve our tired weariness. Yet if we wait for God to show up in our circumstances, he will lift us up like the eagles that fly above the storm clouds and the winds. The prophet Isaiah promises if we have the courage to "wait" in difficult situations, God will indeed renew our strength.
We can then soar free of our problems and gain new perspectives on life just as eagles do after a long winter's wait. Even the strongest people get tired at times, but God's power and strength never diminish. The Lord is never too tired or busy to help and listen. God's strength is our source of strength. When you feel life is crushing and weariness abounds, remember you can call upon God to renew your strength. "Waiting" in Hebrew simply means "trusting" in the Lord. It is the patient expectation God fulfills his promises in due season and strengthens us to rise above life's problems. Though our bodies may be weak and weary, we can relax in God's promise of renewed strength. Rest assured today God loves you and wants only the best for you.
Prayer: Lord, thank you for granting me the patience to wait for you to renew my strength. Amen.
