Brief Devotions For Busy Lives" by Rev. Dr. Mary Johnson: Song of Songs 2:11-12

 March 11

"My beloved...said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For behold, the winter is past, the rain is over, it is gone: The flowers appear on the earth; the time of singing is come, and the voice of the turtle-dove is heard in our land." -Song of Songs 2:11-12 (Darby)

While we never know when it is going to happen, there does come a day in March when the sun rises and the first flower appears as the birds burst into song once more. Our winter weariness lifts and a new exuberance fills our spirits. Although the waiting of winter can seem endless, God our Creator is indeed faithful to "make everything beautiful in its time."(Eccl. 3:11) Whenever we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by the beautiful displays of God's amazing workmanship in green grass, sprouting tree branches, budding flowers, and blue skies, it is important to pause and spend some time with God away from the business of everyday life. The bills will wait, cooking can be done later, and our overdue papers for work will still be there. Enjoy some time with the Lord who says in today's scripture to, "Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away." Give thanks to God, our creator and first love who gives us some of the finest of his creative gifts in the beginnings of a promised spring beauty emerging around us. What convincing evidence of our Lord's power, creativity, love, and care!

As you look at God's handiwork in nature and the heavens, thank him for such magnificent beauty and the truth it reveals about the love of our Creator. God created the world, the beauty of nature, and the gift of love, and wants you to enjoy them. Don't let problems or conflicts, ruin your right to enjoy God's beautiful gifts. Take time today to come away with God!

Prayer: Thank you for quiet times, birds, flowers, the promise of spring, and your creation. I love you Lord! Amen.

Meditation For The Day: Be renewed! Come away with God today.
