“Tell the Israelites, ‘I am the LORD. I will bring you out from under the oppression of the Egyptians, and I will free you from slavery. I will rescue you with my powerful arm and with mighty acts of judgment. Then I will make you my people, and I will be your God. You will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the forced labor of the Egyptians. I will bring you to the land I solemnly swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. I will give it to you as your own possession. I am the LORD.'" Exodus 6:6-8 (GW)
Have you ever felt oppressed or like you were in slavery to someone or something? If so you can identify with how the Israelites must have felt when they were held as slaves in Egypt. Each day must have been a struggle to just get through it. Exhaustion and weariness must have been a constant problem. No matter who or what we may be enslaved to, it is a big problem! Small problems need only small answers. But when we face great problems, God has an opportunity to show his greater power. As the Hebrews' troubles grew steadily worse, God planned to intervene with his awesome power and do great miracles to free and deliver the Israelites. How big are your problems today? They may involve addictions, financial difficulties, working 2 jobs to survive, an abusive relationship, or many other difficulties. However, big problems put you in a perfect position to watch God give much bigger answers.
God's promises in our text from Exodus today were fulfilled to the letter when the Lord delivered the Hebrews from slavery and bondage in Egypt. Just like them, God can free you today from the horror of slavery no matter what you are enslaved to. God wants to make you his own chosen child and protect and love you no matter what you have been through or what you are enslaved to. Don't despair. God has a promised land for you of rest and restoration just as he did for the Hebrews. Draw close to him today and accept his help in gaining your freedom. Persevere! God will not fail you!
Prayer: Lord, Free me now from all that enslaves me. Amen.
