"Therefore let us be grateful for receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, and thus let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe," -Hebrews 12:28 (ESV)
Have you ever experienced an earthquake? It can be very frightening when the earth trembles and foundations are shaken, damaged, or dissolve. Yet as Christians, we are citizens first of God's Kingdom that reigns above all. Although the world eventually will crumble, God's Kingdom will last. When we follow Christ we become part of God's unshakable Kingdom, and will withstand the shaking, sifting, and burning around us. Whenever we feel unsure or frightened about the future, we can take confidence from these verses in Hebrews. No matter what happens in our nation or on this earth, our future is built on a solid foundation that can never be destroyed. Yet there are many more reasons you can rejoice and be grateful today:
(1) You can be grateful for your family of God in Christ (Eph. 1:16; Philip. 1:3-5).
(2) You can be grateful for God's care and generosity (1 Thess. 5:17, 18; 1 Tim.4:4, 5).
(3) You can be grateful for your God's abundant gifts and blessings because his love endures forever (1 Chron.16:34).
(4) You can be grateful for God's integrity and wonderful deeds (2 Cor. 9:15; Rev. 11:17).
(5) You can grateful God will meet your needs and answer your prayers (Is. 65:24).
Those who are wise don't put their confidence in what will be destroyed. Instead, they build their life on the solid foundation of Christ and his unshakable Kingdom.
