"Brief Devotions For Busy Lives" By the late Rev. Dr. Mary B. Johnson: Philippians 4:6-7

November 13

"Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus." -Paul in Philippians 4:6-7 (NLT)

Can you imagine never worrying about anything? It seems impossible! Yet we all have worries in our homes, jobs, schools, and lives. Paul advises us in Philippians to try turning our worries into prayers. Do you want to worry less? The bible says to pray more! Whenever you start to worry, take a deep breath, pause, and pray. Worry less, trust more, and realize God is with you always. Francis Cain once said, “Worry implies that we don’t quite trust that God is big enough, powerful enough, or loving enough to take care of what is happening in our lives.” All the worries in the world can't change your problems. But prayer and God's guidance can! While we all make mistakes and even take wrong turns, worry won’t change it. Have faith in Christ and follow where he leads. Realize "Sorrow looks back, worry looks around, faith looks up."(Emerson)

Above all in the face of worry, persevere! Have confidence in God, and in yourself. Our Lord will give you the ability to do and be what He needs you to do and be. Love more, care more, worry less, and know the bible says when you pray and believe then God will meet your needs.

God's peace can be yours but it is different from worldly peace. (Jn.14:27) True peace is not positive thinking, absence of conflict, or fuzzy good feelings. It comes from knowing God is in charge. Then your citizenship in God's Kingdom is certain, your destiny is set, and you can have victory over worry. Let God's peace guard your heart against anxiety and worry. Yet always remember what is put into your mind determines what comes out in your words and thoughts. Paul tells us to fill our minds with things that are true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise. When worrying, try trusting God's promises and provisions more. Don't let worry rob you of God's peace in your life!

Prayer: God, Thank you for freeing me from worry. Amen.

Meditation For The Day: Faith liberates. Worry devastates.
